The incorporation of traditional medicine into contemporary healthcare represents a significant movement toward more holistic, patient-focused, and culturally responsive health systems. Traditional medical systems, such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Unani, and other indigenous healing traditions, have centuries old histories of addressing illness, promoting wellness, and providing preventive care through natural, community-based modalities. During the Traditional Medicine and Ethnomedicine World Conference TMEWC 2026, this session will discuss integration models, clinical practices, scientific credibility, and policy structures allowing traditional medicine to augment and support conventional healthcare systems.
In light of the ever-changing nature of the contemporary health care environment, it is necessary to reconcile the two systems of traditional and biomedical practices. In addition to enhancing the quality of care, harmonizing the two systems honors culture and patient preferences while integrating ancient knowledge and scientifically sound treatments into health care.
The conference will explore issues of scientific validity, including undertaking scientifically sound research and establishing standards for practice. Additionally, the conference will address policy and regulatory issues related to the ethical inclusion of the practice in the health care sector.
